It's challenge time!

Comment with Just One Thing you've accomplished in the last 24 hours or so. It doesn't have to be a hard thing, or even a thing that you think is particularly awesome. Just a thing that you did.

Feel free to share more than one thing if you're feeling particularly accomplished! Extra credit: find someone in the comments and give them props for what they achieved!

Nothing is too big, too small, too strange or too cryptic. And in case you'd rather do this in private, anonymous comments are screened. I will only unscreen if you ask me to.

Last night when I was trying to watch CSI New York on Roku every time this one interactive McDonald's ad came on the ep would reset back to the beginning and apparently the only way I can come close to watching it normally is to fast forward to a point after the damn ad. It yaps about kids voting and has some really irritating sort of anime looking characters in it. I can't stand McDonald's anyway, their food is gross.
Then this morning I accidentally locked myself out of my apt. I felt like a total fool. I could only find the one maintenance guy who speaks zero English so he didn't know what I wanted, it took me a while to find any of the managers.
Then when I went to pay the rent I realized there's bigger fools than me running this place. I always ask for a rent receipt. They gave me one with somebody else's name and check copy on it. I was all "this isn't my check" and they seemed to think it was no big deal!
I hung out down by the lake for a while. Good thing I wore a jacket because the weather was cold and rather wet. I'm super tired now.

Physical Therapy Intake

The cherry trees at the U of I Arboretum are in bloom. I should stop by to see them.

Woke up at 7:30 AM. Got myself together in plenty of time for my appointment. It’s raining.

My physical therapy appointment went well. They’re good; they identified weakness in my hips and glutes as contributing to my knee problems. We did some exercises, and my muscles are twinging. They scheduled me for weekly appointments for six weeks. I need to subscribe to the exercise videos (Lifelong Mobility) that I found as well. Use it or lose it.

Damn, I’m tired. My 1:00 meeting was canceled, so I’ll have time for a nap! Excellent! But the dogs are wrestling, sigh. I’m calling Bella Miss Pushy Dog because she wants pets All The Time. Gracie scratched my face and drew blood 🙁

I received my planters with legs for the vegetable garden. I got the confusion about my login for free mulch straightened out (apparently I signed up twice with different email addresses), but I need to buy a wheelbarrow first. The one that I wanted already sold, so I’ll need to spend more. I need to go get cash to buy one from Facebook Marketplace. But will I be able to lift it? Maybe I’ll have to have one delivered from Home Depot. Ace Hardware had a cheaper one but with a larger delivery fee, so I ordered one from Home Depot plus a “transfer shovel”.

Bella came inside at 3:30 PM. Gracie is still out there. (I let them out late due to my appointment and the delivery of the planters.) Gracie came in at 4:30.

I ordered a (used) book of neck, shoulders, and back stretches/exercises.

I forgot that I need to straighten out some financial stuff with Lessonface before I can take my piano class. But I’m going to take a nap first if the dogs will let me. I have a headache. No, my piano teacher said that I was on the roster, so I attended piano class. I guess they resubmitted the charge.

Ate dinner while watching The Pitt. Looked at some AI instructions for developing hand independence for piano.

The dogs came in on the first try and I fed them. I need to give the cats their crunchies. I’m really tired, so I want to go to bed soon.

Back in the game again!

In the last couple of months, I've found B7 fans in various places and have started writing again. I've got my mojo back and have lots of ideas. I'm going to have fun before the reboot which might drive me out of the fandom, who knows.

This week I just finished a pairing challenge where you nominate 4 characters and get 6 pairings with prompts. If there's a B7 fan here who isn't the one of the two or three I know about, I did these:

Vila asks Gan to go to the [choice] because...
Avon & Blake with the title "Empty"
Vila & Blake: "I don't know." "Let's find out together."
Avon & Gan: last minute
Vila & Avon: "Stuck in the middle with you."
Blake & Gan: glory

All six are collected here.

There's an 8-character challenge later in the year which means 28 combinations, but I'll only do the ones I fancy.

Also, Unconventional Courtship is back and this year I finally found a summary I want to write (I have actually looked previous years in case).

Movies: We watched The Roses last week; this is an adaptation of the 1980s movie, The War of the Roses, based on the book of the same name. I have never seen the original or read the book, so I have nothing to compare it to, but this was a decent movie, mainly due to the leads being Benedict Cumberbatch and Olivia Coleman. Coleman's character, Ivy, was much worse than her husband . . . at least until the very end.

Television/Streaming: working our way through season 3 of Buffy and Farscape.
Buffy episodes:
  • "The Wish," where Cordelia wishes that Buffy never came to Sunnydale, leading to a very dark future. This was a really good episode, despite its bleakness.
  • "Amends," where Angel is haunted by his past. A bit overwrought, especially with the "Christmas miracle" kind of ending.
  • "Gingerbread," where Buffy's mom finds the two dead children in the park and it turns into a whole book-burning, anti-witch extravaganza. The ideas in this one are a little too close to home these days.
  • "Helpless," where Buffy is drained of her powers so that she can undergo the slayer test. This one pissed me off so much.
  • "The Zeppo," where the rest of the gang tells Xander to stay away and he ends up getting into his own adventure. I think we watched this the day or so before Nicholas Brendan was found dead. I found it to be a kind of annoying premise, as he has been helpful before.

Farscape episodes: "Losing Time," "Relativity," "Incubator," "Meltdown," "Scratch 'n Sniff," and both halves of "Infinite Possibilities," Daedalus Demands and Icarus Abides. Overall, I don't really think there is a bad Farscape episode. I like how they balance the serious with the occasionally silly.

Books: I finished An Offer from A Gentleman as well as the 2nd epilogue. It was okay. Benedict is much worse in the book than he is on screen. And how many times does Sophie need to tell us that she is a bastard/illegitimate? You could devise a drinking game with it.

I also read If You're Seeing This, It's Meant for You by Leigh Stein. It is described as a Gothic horror, set in the Hollywood Hills, in a crumbling mansion that is a current "hype house" for social media influencers. So a lot of obnoxious kids making Tiktoks. Everyone in this book is insufferable. I had higher hopes for this, but even reading this as completely satirical, it was just annoying. And the very last page plot-twist I could have done without.

Video Games: still working my way through Bendy and the Ink Machine, but I've gotten to a part that is really frustrating and I don't know if I will be able to get past the mini-game to prrogress. I've looked on Reddit and some folks suggested to turn down some of the resolution and other settings to get past it, so I will have to try that.

Listening to: I've listened to two albums on the Rolling Stone Top 500 Albums list.

Number 486: Continuum by John Mayer. This was not on the 2012 list. Rolling Stone blurb:
After establishing himself as a post-Dave Matthews heartthrob, John Mayer grew into his soul and blues ambitions for a subtly crafted album aided by ace musicians like guitarists Ben Harper and Charlie Hunter, drummer-producer Steve Jordan, and jazz trumpeter Roy Hargrove — from the smooth Hi Records-tinged soul of “Vultures” to “Waiting for the World to Change,” a deceptively knowing and self-aware take on generational apathy.

Okay, so I listened to this last week and I was fairly unimpressed by it. I followed my rule of listening at least twice (unless it's so objectionable that I just can't) and I thought it was just okay. Even opined to husband that it was just "coffee shop white boy hipster" or something like that.

Yesterday was a bad noise day and I needed to put something on in my headphones quickly and this album was still in my queue. And maybe I've become hypnotized or something, but I am really enjoying this album now!

I really like "Belief," "Vultures," "Slow Dancing in a Burning Room," and "In Repair"

Number 485: I want to see the bright lights tonight, Richard and Linda Thompson. This was at 471 on the previous list. Rolling Stone blurb:
With Fairport Convention, Richard Thompson was one of the first prominent Sixties folk rockers to look to his native England’s traditions for inspiration. After leaving Fairport, he joined with his wife, Linda Thompson to make stellar albums in the Seventies. Richard played guitar like a Sufi-mystic Neil Young; Linda had the voice of a Celtic Emmylou Harris. Bright Lights is their devastating masterwork of folk-rock dread. Radiohead even picked up some guitar tricks from “The Calvary Cross.”

I'd not heard of this one before, but I really enjoyed it. Played it through multiple times during my workday. The whole album is excellent, but "The Calvary Cross" is great, especially the expansive live version that closes out the album (from the 2004 CD release, not the original). I also really like the title track.

Woke up at 7:30 AM. Let the dogs out and went back to sleep. Oliver was in the bedroom with me, but he let me sleep. Thanks, Oliver.

It got dark and I’m hearing rumbles of thunder. Here comes the rain. Good because my little tree needs watering. Bad because I need to put a bunch of boxes out for recycling. Oh, I should get the dogs in. Bella came in but Gracie didn’t. I’ll wait until the rain gets serious and try again. Gracie did get drenched but she came in. Now they’re eating. Bella tried to eat from both Gracie’s bowl and hers. Greedy dog. Now Gracie is crashed out cold. Now Lily is snoozing with her leg up in the air. They keep me entertained. Oliver is annoyed that Lily is in the cat bed on my desk.

The Supreme Court struck down a ban on conversion therapy. Crap. I probably never mentioned that my mom wanted to become a conversion therapist because she was in love with a gay man. It didn’t do my mental health any good.

Drove around dropping off flyers for the book sale at my volunteer place. Man, I’m beat afterwards. I’m going to eat dinner while I watch an episode of The Pitt (done). I need to update the spreadsheet for the distribution of flyers (done).

The dogs were waiting at the door for me to let them in. Was it raining again?

I need to get to bed soon because I have my physical therapy intake appointment tomorrow. I’m craving a day to stay at home.

Things that you say only if you have dogs: “Gracie, don’t chew the stairs!” I quickly grabbed munchie bones for her and for Bella.

Woke up a little after 7 AM. Went back to sleep, and overslept work by a half-hour. Oops.

The radiology department at the local hospital called me for a CT appointment. Among other things, my phone is working.

Fed the catlings. The dogs don’t want to come in (no surprises there). I’m pondering how I can reseed the front yard when the dogs have trampled the lawn. Maybe I should just put mulch there? Hmm, I saw a grass-and-clover mix intended for lawns with dogs. Maybe I’ll try it and put down mulch if it doesn’t take.

Bella came in at 12 PM. Gracie came in at 1 PM. I put her food bowl under her nose, and she decided that she wanted to eat. Now both dogs are crashed out.

I’m having an IBS flare-up, but I’m hoping that I’ll make it to choir. I really need to be there. I think that I’ll skip dinner to settle my insides.

I picked up Lily and carried her downstairs for food. She clearly said “NO!” when I picked her up, but she ate the food. (It amazes me how creatures without a common vocabulary can communicate so well.) Fed the cats and dogs.

Choir went okay. My choir director wants me to come in with the book sale flyer tomorrow and leave it in the choir room. We’re trying out of solos next week, and there’s a song that I really want. I’ll send it to my singing teacher.

Ate while watching The Pitt. (Luckily, nothing gross happened while I was eating.) Got the dogs back inside and fed them.

Need to get to bed soon. Tomorrow will be a long day.

Gracie woke me up at 7:30 AM. I managed to get a leash on her and went out with the dogs. Bella is still out there, but she’s easier to get in. Fed us all. Nap time. It’s dog wrestling time, apparently. Sigh.

Overslept my nap. I was dreaming about a guy that I used to like.

When I went to volunteer, the leader asked me to go distribute flyers about the book sale. The internet on my phone wasn’t working, so I went to places I knew and distributed only four flyers, but they were far afield. I told the leader that I could do more on Tuesday night. She also asked me if I was going to the sale, and I said that I was working it and helping to tear it down. She said that she was glad that I found the organization.

As for the phone, apparently my payment didn’t go through, so I need to pay my bill (done).

Got a baguette, donut holes, flavored water, and Chef Boyardee spaghetti at the store. I had some bread when I came home (after Bella said “Hi! You’re back!” to me). The cats want to be fed. I want to sit for a while, so I think that I’ll feed the cats and watch an episode of The Pitt (done).

Had the Chef Boyardee spaghetti for dinner. A little nostalgia from when I was a kid. Got the pupsters in and fed.

I’m feeling too tired to get anything done. I think that I’ll watch one more episode of The Pitt and get to bed early.

Is there an interesting story behind your username?my username is actually just a JP nickname for my favorite character, Aventurine from honkai star rail! you'll see me mention him a lot hehe

Location and language(s):i live in the USA and speak only english! i am currently learning japanese, though.

    Age range (e.g 20s, 30s, etc.):30's

Hot button/deal breaker issues that will likely lead to unfriending:all i ask is that you don't be a jerk or a bigot/etc, that's it really. i'm pretty chill otherwise.

Do you have an "About Me" post new friends can read to get a sense of who you are, the people you talk about regularly, etc.? i DO have a sticky/intro post on my journal that provides a bit more info about me!

Is your profile up-to-date or at all useful?i'd say pretty accurate, yeah!

List a few things you think it's important new friends know about you right away:i love aventurine --

You mostly write about:fandom stuff and personal/irl stuff

You never or very rarely write about:serious/heavy personal stuff. if i do ever write about that, then it will have a proper warning on it.

Is your journal mostly public, locked, or a mix of public and locked?my journal is open to the public!

Do you use filters for certain types of posts (e.g. fandom-related posts, or posts about sex, or mental health issues, etc.)?i do! i make sure to tag my entries appropriately.

Your posting frequency (e.g. daily, every few days, weekly, etc.):i'd say a few times a week

Does your journal frequently include any of the following: memes, linkspams, gifs, photos, videos, etc?the occasional image, but that's not very common.

What do you enjoy most about journaling?opening up, talking about myself more and talking to people!

How often do you read your friends list (e.g. daily, every other day, once a week, etc.)?i try to read at LEAST once a day

You really enjoy reading about:you mean on dreamwidth? just about anything, i'm not picky

You have very little interest in reading about: N/A

Your thoughts on journals that regularly include any of the following: memes, linkspams, gifs, photos, videos, etc?i don't mind them!

When it comes to comments on your posts, what matters more -- quality or quantity?i have no preference. i guess quality?

Do you unfriend people who don't comment much, even if you know they are reading you regularly?
nope! if you can't comment much, then it's all good. i imagine there's a good reason behind it.

What is your approach when it comes to commenting on other journals?i just comment whatever's comes to mind, if that makes any sense. of course it'll be related to the entry's subject matter

When you friend someone, but things don't really click, do you unfriend them without warning, or do you send them a note first? How do you prefer to be unfriended in similar circumstances?i never really had to do this before, so i really don't know how to answer. i'm not an unfriender i suppose, LOL

    AND LASTLY

Friending memes often ask people to list their favourite TV shows, movies, books, etc., but more often than not, those aren't things people actually write about in their journal. Do you have any favourite TV shows, movies, books, etc., that you DO often write about -- not necessarily in a fandom sort of way, just in general?i looove talking about anything hoyoverse (genshin/honkai/zenless) and whatever other online/gacha game i'm playing at the time!

Any final thoughts you'd like to share with potential new friends? hello! i hope we can become friends and get to know each other more ^-^ i'm pretty chill i'd say!

    Fixed My Phone

Woke up at 8 AM. Let the dogs out. Fed myself and the cats. I think that I might have fixed my phone, but I need to log onto my work phone and test it. Yep, it’s working. Yay!

Napped and overslept until a little after 1 PM. Rescued my Costco box (dog food). The delivery person put it on the sidewalk because the dogs were out, but it was still there. Oliver is climbing all over me. I told him that he had breakfast and doesn’t get lunch, but he’s still hopeful. Ate lunch. I’m trying to decide what to do. Usually, I take a nap after lunch, but my first nap ran long. I should work on the bathroom. Maybe I should start on the bathroom and take a nap when I need a break.

Well, Bella came in around 2:30. Gracie is still refusing to come in. Bella wants company, so I guess that I’ll take a nap. Yeah, it’s a real sacrifice :) Bella is one tired pup. Napped. Got Gracie in at 5 PM. I told Bella that she doesn’t need to stay up with me, but she thinks that it’s her duty as The Dog. Fed us all. I had to carry Lily down from upstairs because the dogs are in. She nestled in but also was saying “No” clearly. (She doesn’t like being picked up. Oliver doesn’t mind it as much.)

I think that I’m procrastinating working on the bathroom because I’ll need to stand up. I did start on the bathroom with frequent breaks. Bella came over and yawned at me, and I told her to take a nap. But she thinks that she needs to fulfill watchdog duties.

Watched Season 2, Episode 1 of The Pitt. Fed the dogs and cats their nighttime crunchies. Bed time soon.

Well, according to the tests nothing is seriously wrong with me. I did get a vaccine which is meant to make it less likely for me to die or need to be hospitalized if I get pneumonia and for reasons I can't even guess at I got almost no sleep last night plus I can barely walk due to the leg strain of walking up that damn hill.
